Meet Your Local Expert Guide in Bali

Hi, I’m Gede from GOODDAYFROMBALI — a professional trekking guide based in Bali, specializing in Mount Batur sunrise trekking, advanced volcano routes, and private Bali tours tailored for travelers seeking authentic, high-quality experiences.

With years of guiding experience across Bali’s mountains, including Mount Batur, I don’t just lead hikes — I create meaningful journeys. Whether you’re a solo traveler, a couple, or a family with children, every trip is carefully designed to be safe, memorable, and truly unique.

In this story, I’ll take you through one of my most unforgettable experiences — guiding Olga and her family from Russia on a custom Mount Batur trekking route via the New Crater, a path less traveled, more challenging, but incredibly rewarding.

A Special Request from Russia

On August 14, 2024, I received a message from my returning guest’s friend, Konstantin:

“Hi bro, I have new guests, my friends. Can we book climbing on Batur with you?”

Of course, I replied:

“Yes, sure. For how many people, please?”

His answer:

“4 people, 2 adults, 2 kids.”

Then came the special request that immediately caught my attention:

“Route to new crater, and after breakfast to the top.”

This wasn’t the standard Mount Batur sunrise trekking route. The New Crater (formed during the 2000 eruption) offers a more scenic yet longer and more challenging trail, especially for children.

But that’s what makes the journey extraordinary.

Final Confirmation & Trekking Preparation

After receiving Olga’s contact, I reached out to confirm all details. Initially planned for August 15, the schedule shifted:

“Hello! We are going to visit the volcano on Saturday morning, 17.08.”

Olga mentioned they were already staying in Kintamani, making logistics smoother. They had their own transport, so I sent them the exact meeting point location along with detailed instructions.

We agreed to meet at 03:45 AM — the perfect timing for a sunrise trek.

Into the Night: Beginning the Mount Batur Trek

Right on time, we met in the cool, silent darkness of early morning. After a warm introduction, I provided:
• Headlamps
• Bottled water
• Safety briefing

Then we began our journey.

The air was crisp, the sky full of stars, and the trail unusually quiet. Unlike the crowded main route, this path felt exclusive — almost as if the mountain belonged only to us.

We walked steadily, sharing stories, laughing softly, and occasionally stopping to admire the night sky. The children, despite their age, showed incredible spirit — a strong reminder that adventure has no age limit.

Reaching the New Crater (2000 Lava Field)

After a gradual but consistent climb, we reached the New Crater, formed during Mount Batur’s last major eruption in 2000.

Here, something magical happens.

Natural volcanic steam vents rise from the earth — completely safe — and provide warmth in the cold mountain air. We used this geothermal heat to warm ourselves while preparing breakfast.

Yes, breakfast on a volcano.

We laid down a mat, sat together, and enjoyed the peaceful silence of the crater. It was one of those rare travel moments where time slows down, and everything feels perfectly aligned.

The Final Push to the Summit

With about 30 minutes left before sunrise, we packed up and continued toward the summit.

This section was different:
• Less rocky
• More dirt trails
• Slightly steeper
• Requires good balance

Despite the challenge, Olga, her husband, and their children were absolutely impressive. Their energy, determination, and teamwork were inspiring.

Step by step, we climbed.

And then…

We reached the summit just as the sun began to rise.

Golden light slowly painted the sky, revealing breathtaking views:
• Lake Batur shimmering below
• Mount Agung standing majestically in the distance
• A sea of clouds glowing under the morning sun

It was pure magic.

We took photos, laughed, and simply stood in silence, absorbing the beauty of Bali from above.

Exploring the Crater Rim: West to East

Instead of heading down immediately, we continued walking along the crater rim from west to east.

This route offers:
• Dramatic volcanic landscapes
• Panoramic viewpoints
• A quieter, more immersive experience

At the eastern end, we paused again — sitting quietly, feeling the warmth of the rising sun, and appreciating the moment.

Sometimes, the best part of travel isn’t the destination — it’s the stillness you find along the way.

As the sun climbed higher, we began our descent via a different route.

The trail down was:
• Slightly dusty
• Occasionally slippery
• A bit challenging in certain sections

There were moments of laughter, storytelling, and yes — a few playful complaints from the kids (which made the journey even more memorable!).

But that’s what makes a real adventure — the mix of effort, emotion, and shared experience.

Before we knew it, we arrived safely back at the starting point.

What started as a simple trek turned into a complete, meaningful journey filled with:
• Unique routes
• Family bonding
• Natural beauty
• Personal achievement

Thank you, Olga and family, for trusting me with your adventure.

Your strength, positivity, and spirit made this journey truly unforgettable.

I wish you all the best — health, happiness, and continued success. And I sincerely hope that one day, we can meet again for another incredible journey in Bali.
